4-H Begins with YOU!
A 4-H Volunteer can be a parent, relative, friend, teacher, youth professional, or athlete who decides that one of the most rewarding things they can do is to spend time with today’s youth between the ages of 5 to 18 years old. Our 4-H Volunteers are mentors, setting an example and a standard for others to follow. All 4-H Volunteers must be officially accepted and enrolled by Barnstable County Extension and agree to a Criminal Offender Records Information (CORI/SORI) check.
Volunteers are needed now, more that ever. If you have the enthusiasm and dedication we’re looking for, we’ll give you the resources you need to organize and lead young members of your community.
If you are interested we would love to have you join the team! Please contact the 4-H Youth Development Program by using the contact information below. Our Youth Extension Educator will have a meet and greet with you to discuss where you would like to help out, whether as a Club Leader, Assistant Leader, Advisory, assisting at the Barnstable County Fair, Visual Presentations, Harvest Festival, or helping with special programming. We can’t make this work without volunteers. WE NEED YOU!

Job Title
4-H Babysitter Course Instructor Contractor
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports education through “hands-on” learning experiences.
- Serves as a role model and mentor for youth.
- Training for young people using an established 4-H Babysitter Course curriculum.
- Complete course supporting 4-H program documentation including attendance sheet & ES237
- Complete a CORI/SORI application.
- Hourly pay at current Barnstable County contractor rate
- Independent contractor, completing a W-9 will receive 1099 for tax reporting.

- You enjoy working with young people.
- You believe in the power of young people, and that every child has valuable strengths and real influence to improve the world around us.
- You’re a caring and responsible mentor.
- You do not need to be an “expert.” Parents, professionals, homemakers, teachers, youth leaders, and other caring adults can fill this role to support our youth to “Learn by Doing”.
- 21 years or older
Time Requirements
Flexible based on the community scheduling needs
Location & Work Environment
Community-based, in-person and flexible depending on community needs.
Orientation & Training
- Two-hour, virtual instructor training
- Orientation with 4-H Extension Educator
Supervision & Support
- Supported by knowledgeable UMass Extension 4-H Educators who are there to help them every step of the way.
