Body Walk
Body Walk, is an educational, interactive exhibit targeting third graders across Cape Cod. The spring months of March and April are an ideal time to offer this program as it coincides with National Nutrition Month and many other wellness activities offered in our local elementary schools.
Learning healthy lifestyles. This is the primary focus of Body Walk, a fun, educational tour of the human body. Children gain a firsthand look at how to make healthy choices and remain healthy throughout their lives. The Body Walk is a wonderful way for students to have fun as they learn about health, nutrition, and physical activity.
The Body Walk features an eleven-station tour of the body, from brain to mouth, stomach, small intestine, heart, lungs, bones, muscles, and skin. Follow-up activities for use in the classroom are provided to each participating teacher. Classroom activities are the key to extending the healthy messages learned through Body Walk. Additionally, take home materials are provided to allow students to share the messages with parents.
Power Play!
A nutrition adventure for the entire school. Power Play is a fun-filled nutrition education event that reinforces the importance of "5-9 a Day" and physical activity through various games, activities, and taste testing opportunities. The purpose of Power Play is to expose children to different fruits and vegetables in fun, interactive, and physically active ways. Coupling games that focus on fruits and vegetables with physical activity reinforces the nutrition message and helps to foster life-long healthy habits. This event can be coordinated with the help of Cape Cod Cooperative Extension plus a minimum of 10 parent or staff volunteers from the school.
Fun with Food
After school and out of school activities in collaboration with the Barnstable County 4-H Programs. Fun with Food is a an exciting 6-week series that focuses on healthful snacks, good nutrition, and physical activity. Each week children will learn about healthy eating based on USDA's MyPyramid and the US Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Lessons focus on the various food groups and making good choices. Aside from an informative mini nutrition lesson, the children will enjoy making and sampling their own healthy after school snacks. To balance out concepts of good nutrition, children will participate in fun activities that get them moving as well. At the close of the series, children will take home a folder complete with each of the recipes prepared in the program and ideas for staying physically active as a family.
