Mission
The Nutrition Education Program (NEP) provides individuals, families and communities with the knowledge and skills that empower them to make informed choices about healthy diets, efficiently manage food resources, and reduce the risks of chronic diseases and foodborne illness. The education provided draws upon nutrition recommendations presented in the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA's MyPyramid. Extension educators target consumers and families, municipal employees, food handlers, low-income and high-risk individuals, the elderly and agencies that serve these populations.

Pre-K Projects

Food and Nutrition are important for raising healthy children. Nutrition and literacy, introducing healthy foods and incorporating nutrition information into preschool curriculum can be fun ways for children to learn healthy habits. Preschool projects include presentations and information for preschool classes and parent education opportunities in the community. Preschool teacher nutrition workshops also help to bring nutrition into the classroom and materials to the homes of young children in Barnstable County.
