Mission
The Nutrition Education Program (NEP) provides individuals, families and communities with the knowledge and skills that empower them to make informed choices about healthy diets, efficiently manage food resources, and reduce the risks of chronic diseases and foodborne illness. The education provided draws upon nutrition recommendations presented in the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA's MyPyramid. Extension educators target consumers and families, municipal employees, food handlers, low-income and high-risk individuals, the elderly and agencies that serve these populations.

Parent Presentations

Smart Snack Attack!

A workshop for parents on smart snacking strategies.  Parents will receive an introduction to MyPyramid for kids and develop a healthy snacking strategy for their home. Suggestions for stocking the cupboard shelves and simple recipes for do-it-yourself snacks that help children practice independence will be discussed.

Packing a Healthy Lunch

Are you challenged to pack a lunch each day that your children will actually eat yet at the same time provide valuable nutrients? This workshop will help parents to plan for healthy bag lunches using the five food groups. Menu ideas to please a picky palette will be presented as well as important food safety tips to consider when brown bagging it.

Produce Power

Color and Crunch and Great Things to Munch! A presentation that highlights the health benefits of fruits and vegetables for young and old. Leave with realistic strategies for getting your kids to “eat their colors” every day.

Food Label Know How

Never have the time to do the nutritional investigative work while you’re in the grocery store? Then this presentation is for you! The 5/20 Rule is a quick and easy way to look at nutrition labels. The program introduces this simple method and lets participants put it into practice using some common foods you may find on your own pantry shelves.

Family Time:  Keep it Moving!

A workshop for parents on the importance of physical activity beginning at an early age. As a result of this program, parents will identify ways to move more as a family. Parents play an important role in helping their children make active living an everyday habit.

Power Up with Breakfast!
