Mission
The Nutrition Education Program (NEP) provides individuals, families and communities with the knowledge and skills that empower them to make informed choices about healthy diets, efficiently manage food resources, and reduce the risks of chronic diseases and foodborne illness. The education provided draws upon nutrition recommendations presented in the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA's MyPyramid. Extension educators target consumers and families, municipal employees, food handlers, low-income and high-risk individuals, the elderly and agencies that serve these populations.

Municipal Employee Wellness Projects

Wellness programs are available to municipal employees in towns across Cape Cod as well as to police and fire departments. Various projects are in collaboration with Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, the Barnstable County Health & Environment Department and Cape Cod Municipal Health Group. Offerings include services such as medical screenings (blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and hearing tests) by registered nurses, a wide assortment of educational materials, and nutrition and cooking demonstrations.
