Mission
The Nutrition Education Program (NEP) provides individuals, families and communities with the knowledge and skills that empower them to make informed choices about healthy diets, efficiently manage food resources, and reduce the risks of chronic diseases and foodborne illness. The education provided draws upon nutrition recommendations presented in the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA's MyPyramid. Extension educators target consumers and families, municipal employees, food handlers, low-income and high-risk individuals, the elderly and agencies that serve these populations.

Fun with Food

After school and out of school activities in collaboration with the Barnstable County 4-H Programs.  Fun with Food is a an exciting 6-week series that focuses on healthful snacks, good nutrition, and physical activity.  Each week children will learn about healthy eating based on USDA’s MyPyramid and the US Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Lessons focus on the various food groups and making good choices. Aside from an informative mini nutrition lesson, the children will enjoy making and sampling their own healthy after school snacks. To balance out concepts of good nutrition, children will participate in fun activities that get them moving as well. At the close of the series, children will take home a folder complete with each of the recipes  prepared in the program and ideas for staying physically active as a family.
