Mission
The Nutrition Education Program (NEP) provides individuals, families and communities with the knowledge and skills that empower them to make informed choices about healthy diets, efficiently manage food resources, and reduce the risks of chronic diseases and foodborne illness. The education provided draws upon nutrition recommendations presented in the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA's MyPyramid. Extension educators target consumers and families, municipal employees, food handlers, low-income and high-risk individuals, the elderly and agencies that serve these populations.

Food Safety for Food Service Workers

Cape Cod Cooperative Extension offers food safety information and training to reduce the risk of foodborne illness. Following the Massachusetts Food Code and incorporating materials produced by UMass Extension and The National Restaurant Associations Educational Foundation, trainings can be tailored to meet the needs of food establishments. From basic food safety to a more formal Food Safety Certification class using materials recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health as a guide, the goal is to increase awareness of food safety and train food service personnel in proper food handling to prevent the incidence of foodborne illness.
