Restoration of Living Marine Resources
From the Atlantic Ocean to Buzzards Bay and all the many salt marshes and bays in between, Cape Cod is often known for its marine resources. Though these resources are diverse and sometimes abundant, there are many occasions where local declines have generated interest towards restoration. These restoration efforts may center on restoring or creating habitat, restocking a particular species, or possibly a combination of the two. The Cape Cod Cooperative Extension marine program has been involved with a number of projects with restoration in mind. These projects include assessment of shellfish habitat, creating oyster habitat and bay scallop spawning sanctuaries, examining shellfish impacts on water clarity and quality, evaluating eelgrass restoration, and investigating the effects of tidal flow restoration.
