Mission
To establish, develop and carry out education programs in marine resource development, to assist with problems concerning coastal industries and the management of coastal resources, and to transfer technological innovations, educational and informational materials to public officials, educators, and marine users groups.

Other Important Shellfish Species

Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts also have a number of other shellfish species of variable commercial importance.  These species include sea or surf clams (Spisula solidissima), the ocean quahog (Arctica islandica), sea scallops (Placopecten magellanicus), the blue mussel (Mytilus edulis), and razor clam (Ensis directus).  The ever popular lobster (Homarus americanus) and blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) can also be included with the important shellfish of the area.

Currently, the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension is investigating methods to grow the razor clam for aquaculture and/or fishery enhancement.
