Demonstration Garden at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds
A demonstration garden is planned, planted, and maintained as a working educational exhibit throughout the growing season. The garden is composed of nine 4’ x 16’ raised beds, an orchard of semi-dwarf, disease resistant apple trees, a blueberry patch, an herb garden, an asparagus bed, a potato patch, as well as 80’ x 6’ perennial border. New techniques and technologies are demonstrated as are new varieties and cultivars. Season extender workshops are conducted twice, once in spring and again in fall.
Master Gardener volunteers assist in the planting and maintenance of these gardens through the growing season. Weekly workdays are scheduled from mid-April through the Fair in July. In addition, Master Gardener volunteers assist in the planting of annuals, perennials, and other ornamental areas of the Fairgrounds as a beautification project for the Barnstable County Fair.
