Hazardous Waste & Water Quality
Program Overview
Public education efforts focus on identifying hazardous products in and around the home and looking for alternatives to those products. Special attention is paid to materials that contaminate drinking water. The program assists individuals, families, businesses and government agencies to make better decisions about using and disposing of hazardous materials.
Regional collection programs focus on providing convenient and cost efficient disposal solutions for hazardous waste. The program works closely with towns to undertake new initiatives for recycling and disposal of difficult to manage wastes. The Household Hazardous Waste Program manages the following programs for all Cape Cod towns:
- Household Hazardous Waste collections
- Mercury collection
- Flares collections
- Sharps collections
- Unwanted Medication disposal education
A variety of affiliated organizations assist in promoting these educational programs and include Covanta · SEMASS, Senior Environmental Corps of Elder Services of Cape Cod, AmeriCorps Cape Cod, Town Recycling Center Coordinators, and Hazardous Waste Coordinators.
