4-H Youth Development Spotlight & News

2010/2011 4-H Fall Enrollment

September 1st begins Fall Enrollment for 4-H clubs.  Enrollment packets for all Barnstable County 4-H clubs will be in the mail the first week of September.  Enrollment deadline is November 15th.  Anyone wanting to start a new 4-H club or inquire about an existing club please call the office at 508-375-6690.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Harvest Festival is being held this year on October 2nd and 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds.  We are looking for 4-H volunteers to work the activity stations or the 4-H Kitchen.  Please refer to the September issue of the 4-H newsletter for more details.

ANNUAL 4-H FOOD DRIVE

The annual fall 4-H food drive for Barnstable County begins on October 2nd and runs until November 15th.  Prizes to the top clubs that donate the most food.

4-H Science Leadership Academy Application Announcement

Congratulations to the 46 land grant universities that have received approval of their application for the 4-H Science Leadership Academy on behalf of National 4-H Headquarters, National 4-H Council and the 4-H Science (formerly SET) initiative.

Funded by the Noyce Foundation, the 46 approved LGU's will receive funding to cover travel and training expenses for ongoing webinars, online support, and learning opportunities.  The 4-H Science Leadership Academy Conference will be held at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland from Dec. 7-9, 2010. This effort will continue to support the great 4-H Science work taking place throughout the nation and to further the goals of the "One Million New Scientists, One Million New Ideas" campaign, which seeks to spark an early interest in science in one million new youth by the year 2013.

Team Massachusetts representatives include Kerry Bickford, Karen Barshefsky, Carrie Chickering-Sears, Kim Pond, all Massachusetts Extension Educators in 4-H Youth Development.
